Welcome from Chris
Welcome to our second digital annual report which truly captures what a great year it has been for the organisation. Across Silver Chain Group, there have been many significant achievements, all in aid of our relentless pursuit to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of Australians.
The Health team in Western Australia is really making an impact. Our advanced wound care service has continued to evolve and we were one of the first organisations in the state to use new technology to treat chronic non-healing wounds. We are also helping more people stay at home through the Home Hospital service, reducing pressure on hospitals and the tax payer, and we are continuing to help people die with dignity, with 65 percent of all admitted clients supported to die at home if they choose.
Our Country services have continued to perform well, providing services to people in rural and remote communities of Western Australia. We not only began to really embrace technology to improve both client outcomes and the staff experience but we have also upgraded our health centres at Hyden, Collie and Eneabba and opened new nursing clinics in Bunbury, Busselton and Northam.
For Home Support in Western Australia, the focus for the past financial year has been preparing for the introduction of Consumer Directed Care, which gives clients greater say about the types of services they receive and the delivery of those services.
This year, RDNS SA celebrated its 120th anniversary. This significant milestone was celebrated across the organisation and we used this opportunity to recognise the role our clients have played throughout our long history.
A key challenge at the end of last year was the operating environment in South Australia but pleasingly, during the past financial year, RDNS SA has significantly turned around. Not only have we seen an improvement in financial sustainability but also in the morale and engagement of staff.
We have also expanded our services on the East Coast this year with the commencement of the Hospital in the Home service in Brisbane’s Metro North and Queensland’s Sunshine Coast as well as a Palliative Care Service in eight Local Health Districts in metropolitan Sydney and rural New South Wales. These services have started to really gain momentum, presenting a real opportunity for us to demonstrate the impact our organisation can have.
Thank you to the more than 2,900 staff who provide quality care to our clients each and every day so they can stay at home. Also thanks to my Executive Team who have continued to challenge and inspire the organisation and our Board of Directors, whose good governance has paved the way for Silver Chain Group to continue to have an unprecedented impact in the community.
