Consumer Directed Care is here

Home care in Australia is changing. These changes are part of the Federal Government’s Living Longer, Living Better aged care reforms to give older people more choice, more control and easier access to a full range of aged care services.

Consumer Directed Care is a feature of the Federal Government’s new Home Care Packages and home care clients receiving Commonwealth Aged Care Packages (CACP) or Extended Aged Care Packages (EACH or EACH Dementia) were this year transitioned to the new packages.

Under the Consumer Directed Care approach, clients make more decisions and are encouraged to be more involved in the way they are supported at home. This means choosing services and how they are provided and managing a budget.

Another important element of Consumer Directed Care is that it’s all about building on what clients can do rather than focusing on what they can’t do.

Silver Chain has spent the last year preparing for these changes. We visited those affected to help guide them through the range of options available to them. We also explained how they manage their allocated budget and access financial statements so they can have more control about how their funds are spent.

At Silver Chain we fully support these changes and we understand the importance of living your best life at home.
