Services commence in Pilbara

On 1 January 2015, Silver Chain commenced providing community health and care services in Port Hedland, Dampier, Karratha, Roebourne, Point Samson and Wickham, after taking over operational responsibility from Southern Cross Care.

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) also transferred services to Silver Chain in the Western Desert, which includes the communities of Parnngurr (Cotton Creek), Punmu,  Kunawarritjii, Newman, Jigalong, Marble Bar and Nullagine. These services will be provided through a brokerage model with the three Western Desert Corporations and East Pilbara Independent Services (EPIS).

Just a few months later, Silver Chain expanded into Onslow, after assuming operational responsibility from WACHS.

Services now operating under Silver Chain include Home Care Packages, Home and Community Care, Mental Health and Respite for Carers. We have also introduced community nursing services.

General Manager, Country Services, Carole Bain, said Silver Chain is pleased to be providing services in the Pilbara, delivering sustainable regional based care in collaboration with local service providers and the local community.

“It made perfect sense for Silver Chain to be a provider of community health and care services in the Pilbara region. There was strong alignment with our existing profile of services and our commitment to rural and remote service provision throughout Australia,” Carole said.

The transfer has broadened our presence in the Pilbara, which already included the Home and Community Care Regional Assessment Service and the visiting Continence Management and Advisory Service. We have also partnered with Wirraka Maya and WA Country Health Service, in developing and trialling a telehealth Diabetes Education program.
