Home Hospital service expands in Perth

Silver Chain is pleased to have expanded its Home Hospital program in Perth.

Silver Chain has become the major provider of Home Hospital services for Royal Perth Hospital (RPH), following the hospital’s decision to discontinue providing the service themselves.

Silver Chain General Manager, Health WA, Mark Cockayne, said he is delighted that this partnership will result in Silver Chain increasing the reach and impact of its Home Hospital services across metropolitan Perth.

“We have been working closely with RPH about the opportunity to support their hospital in the home service and this great outcome is testament to the collaborative relationship established between our organisations,” Mark said.

“From the outset, we wanted to ensure the service would meet the needs of RPH patients.

They will not only receive a visit from a nurse in their home but also, where required, have access to a jointly operated clinic in the hospital where they can be seen by the hospital medical team, if required. The clinic will provide services to the homeless too.”

The agreement with RPH came just as Silver Chain commenced providing Home Hospital services for Perth’s new hospital, the Fiona Stanley Hospital.

“On any one day, we now provide services to more than 125 patients in metropolitan Perth, who would otherwise still be in hospital, hospital standard care at home through our Home Hospital service,” Mark explained.

The Silver Chain Home Hospital program is funded by the WA Department of Health.
