From the Chair
This year has seen us clarify our vision; to deliver world’s best health and aged care in the home so Australians can confidently live their lives as they choose.
It is a bold and ambitious vision but we believe it sets us apart to respond to the rapidly changing aged and health care environments, by providing more choice and excellent customer experience for our clients.
Our commitment to this philosophy positioned us well to respond to significant changes to the aged care market in February 2017 and we have seen significant growth in our Home Care Package client base through our innovative and responsive Social Care division.
Silver Chain’s health care offerings have continued to grow and in July we were awarded the world’s first health care Social Impact Bond for palliative care by the NSW Government. This new and innovative way of delivering health care outcomes in the home at a lower cost and higher quality, provides greater choice for palliative care clients. This unique funding model of sharing risk and driving better health outcomes in collaboration with government, along with a more virtualised, technology-enabled health system could well become the model of the future.
We recognise that building good relationships and working collaboratively with state governments, especially in South Australia and Western Australia, is pivotal to delivering the world’s best health care.
The Board’s commitment to excellence in governance of the organisation has resulted in having an increased focus on clinical and medical governance and audit of the organisation’s quality systems and processes. This ensures that our service delivery in the community is world’s best practice and our clients are safe and secure.
It is a privilege to be the Chair of the Silver Chain Board and every Director needs recognition because after all, it’s a team effort. I’d like to thank my fellow board members for their continued commitment and stewardship of the organisation this last year. I would particularly like to acknowledge the retiring Directors, Dr Judy Stratton, Stephen Connor and Bruce Levy.
In leading the transformational change of the organisation to become more client focussed and recognised for our innovative health and aged care services through leading-edge technology, I’d like to pay tribute to the Group’s Chief Executive Office, Dr Christopher McGowan and his executive team for their commitment to our vision.
